Just Make Exercise Fun
When children are allowed to entertain themselves without any electronic devices, they do everything from running in circles to pretending they’re zoo animals. They burst with activity and make exercise fun. Somewhere between childhood and adulthood, we lose that passion for moving. In some cases, we even hate the thought of exercising. How do you make working out more palatable? Try working out with friends. Having a gym buddy can make your workout more exciting and more fun.
Switch up your workout and try something new.
If you’ve never tried a jump rope workout, maybe it’s time to try. Have you ever used resistance bands or kettlebells? They’re great pieces of equipment that can help you get fit faster. Trying something new beyond the typical bodyweight exercise keeps your workout interesting. If something is more interesting, it’s more fun. Push yourself and do a HIIT—high intensity interval training—workout. You’ll love the challenge and the quick results.
Do activities you love.
Not all exercise requires a gym. You might immediately think of running when you hear that, but other forms of exercise are far more fun. Spending a day hiking and enjoying the family around the campfire at the end of the day is one. White water rafting, rock climbing, and on the tamer side, a night of dancing burns tons of calories and builds endurance. You’ll have fun and get a great workout.
Take your workout to Mother Nature.
Exercising outside can change the dynamics of any workout. Do your workout on grass barefoot and you’ll add more than fun, you’ll add grounding. Grounding draws energy from the earth and helps you relax. You can ride your bike through the park or choose a challenging hilly area to test you. Make a day of it and pack a lunch. If you don’t have reflective clothing or reflectors, finish your workout before dusk.
- Do your workout at a playground. The jungle gym can provide flexibility and strength training. Chin-ups, bench dips, calf raises, and squats are a few of the park-perfect exercises.
- Get hula hoops for the whole family and have hula hoop contests. You can also include jump ropes for other competitions. The kids will have fun and so will you. Include a pogo stick for a bigger challenge.
- Join a sports team. No matter what the sport, you’ll get additional exercise. Even if your sport is throwing darts, it provides upper-body exercise. It also provides companionship, fun, and improved concentration.
- Enjoy the pool and get a thorough workout. Pool exercises are easier on the body since it’s more buoyant in the water, reducing impact. However, water provides more resistance when you move, causing each exercise to burn more calories and build muscles faster.
